| Hmmm, it has been a while. A friend reminded me of the value of introspection. Therefore, I am going to attempt this again. You gotta buy this book. Man it is good. You know I was in funeral processional today and it became clear to me just how self-centered people are. They could not wait a few minutes for the porcessional to pass by. They were jumping in front and cutting through. WERE JUST TALKING A FEW MINUTES! I was so hot! People suck! People by nature are self-centered and they suck! Man I am determined to not be self-centered. You know I think you can trace most of our problems back to selfishness. | | |
| It has been a while. I've been somewhat busy and the holiday, of course. I'm going to try to get back in the swing of this. This past Sunday I spoke on legacy. Oh, wow you talk about shaking you. I used clip from Schindler's list. At the end of the war right before he flees he breaksdown crying because he realizes just how much more he could have done. I don't want that to be my story. I want to give up everything for effectiveness. What is crazy, is that we somehow justify our lack of more sacrifice by comparing ourselves to others. I am sacrificing more than so and so. I must be doing OK. Well so and so isn't going to answer to Jesus for me and what I did with my life. Have you ever heard of the Judgement seat of Christ. You might want to look it up. We will give an account for our life (time, talent, treasure). I don't want to be like Schindler. | | |
| So I was writing and studying yesterday and I just kept coming back to this issue of diversity. In I Cor 12 Paul makes it very clear that there will be diversity within the body of Christ. Look at the passage. he was talking about racial, world view, social-economic, and functional diversity. In other words there should be many races in our churches. Why do people go to white, black, Hispanic, etc churches? Because we cannot embrace each others differences. Let's not be simple minded either. If Paul was advocating a church where Jews, gentiles, slaves, etc there would be all kinds of different world views. Does this exist in our American church? Nooo, if you don't agree go somewhere else. God forbid we have open dialog. We have poor churches and rich churches. You can forget functional diversity. Every church seems to have its own specialty (sunday school, praying for the sick, exciting worship, etc). As a student of leadership I recognize it all starts right there. If I am a weak leader I only have the capacity to lead people who are just like me or make people just like me. This way I'm in control. Ugh, it just makes me sick. I do not understand why people tolorate going to nondiverse church. There is no way I could go to or raise my kids in an all white, robot, every one is the same church. If you look at that passage Paul is advocating a unified diversity. Lord give us church leaders with enough strength to embrace this unified diversity rather than the cookie cutter stuff that goes on now. | | |
| Ownership verses Stewardship. You know it is crazy, but we live our lives as if we own it. Things are "our decisions." In practice we act as if we are in control, but theologically no one who calls themself a follow of Jesus would own up to that mentality. The repercussions of understanding that we are a steward is heavey. It causes you to handle your time, talent, and treasure with a lot more care. It causes you seek wisdom with a lot more fervor. Most importantly, it causes you to passionatly pursue the will of Yahweh. You see this is a fundamental stuggle of every believer and it is nothing more than original sin reincarnated, "if you eat of this fruit you can be god yourself." If I own it I control it, I can lord over it. I can be it's God. If I am a steward, then that means I am submitted to some one else. Why would scripture tell us that obedience is better than sacrafice when such a large emphasis was placed on sacrifice both within Judisim, and Chrisitanity? Well, it is because the reason sacrifice has to happen is because of the lack of obedience. I am disobedient, fundamentally because I am not submitted. I am determined to own my life rather than steward. How many of us could break the cycle of sin and failure in our life if we would settle this Lorship issue? If we would make the right big desicion to submit a lot of the little decisions to sin (disobedience) would be corrected. By the way sin isn't alway's the things I do, it is often things I don't do. | | |
| Priority- what a big word and a big problem. It is such a key in life. Figuring out what is the priority. Most people give lip service to the subject, but we don't have a handle on it. It is easy to tell what your priority is by where you spend you time and money. Unfortunately that would indicate for most of us our priority is our self. We just can't seem to get things done and we wonder why. It is because we are not disciplined enough to prioritize. Oh discipline! Wow that's another big one. Sometimes I feel like there is so much inside of me I want to get out. I start racking my brain to try and figure out how to get it all out and then it dawns on me. Discipline is the key to unlock the door so it can all come out. Priority is the door way so that it can all fit through. Yahweh, help me with this today. I don't want to be the one talent guy who didn't steward what you gave him. | | |
